What the heck.. I am in to this kind of stuff so here we go. What we have here is a dash mounted AMC Tachometer for a vehicle with a V8. I bought this probably 10 years ago at out local AMC car show. The guy worked at AMC and I bought some nice Machine wheels from him as well. No clue who he was. OK the NOS Tach is cool enough but check out the labels and dates on the original box. In a net shell this Tach was Air Priority shipped collect from the AMC Parts Division in Milwaukee WI to Mr. J. R.UHL at Plymouth Rd. in Detroit. The date forwarded was 11-8-68. There were 3 boxes total.. 1968: The AMX and Javelin were out and had in dash Tachometers. AMC was probably developing 1970 vehicles by November of '68 unless the tack was slated for some late or mid-year '69 vehicle. Or, the dude just wanted a Tach for his Rambler... highly doubt it, Priority Air Express. And, what was in the other 2 boxes? It would be really cool to know the true history on this package. Wholyshit! After reading my own dam post, this could have very well been destined for the SC/Rambler. I suppose that it could have been for the prototype Machine. Hell I don't know, what do you think?

It was meant for an XR Gremlin of course.

Rick, do you have a part number? Because of the color of the cup, I'm not leaning towards an SC/Rambler... I ordered my '67 Rogue with a dash-mounted tach, that looked like that.
Cool stuff!!!

No part number or instructions. Actually, I am leaning more towards the SC/Rambler as a mock up. Maybe it was for a show car as well.

This stuff came out of the Electronics Dept at AM Tech on Plymouth Road. I did have the #001 Distributor Machine out of there as well but, I traded it for a rebuilt alternator.

I have a good buddy who used to work for AMC then JeepTruck Engineering on Plymouth road. We became buds the first time I judged his car. He has a high level red '73 AMX. After I judged his car and deducted a pure stock point for body and paint I asked him if the color was Gards Red (Porsha color). He said yep, you are the only one who has ever caught that. We have been friends ever since. He is actually the one who came up with the "Farm Guy" handle. He was a Detroit boy and I live in the sticks.. Anyway, I got the meters from him. The best thing was he would get me in to the facility on Family Day and stuff. Hell, I even got to drive the famous "AMX on the roof" around the parking lot.. (I recorded the VIN too) He even had my Comanche in there one day to do some sort of wiring kit on it. Didn't seem that long ago but I guess those were good old days. I count myself lucky.

I was just a kid when Chryco did the hostile takeover. Hell, I barely knew what an AMC was in '87.

The car that they should have made... I got this copy from one of C. Chakmakian's binders.. I beleive that this would have been a 360 with a Machine intake and exhaust manifolds including 2 1/4: exhaust. BP by Rick Jones, on Flickr

The same thing is posted on the Gaymc site. I think it was under the SCCA/B thread.

I don't know what this was for, I don't remember where or when I got it but, I have had it for a long time. It has 3590718&9 stamped in the wood.
