This is awesome! You got this custom work done, while that Concord dick with eyes over on gAyMC is still asking stupid fucking questions about bolting in a V8, with all bolt in parts. and you also built custom headers in less time than 99% of that forum can choose a pre made ready to install intake or cam. With the time they have involved, they should be grinding their own cams, and casting their own intakes in their own garage. What a sad, dickless bunch of losers.

Nice job Spud! I was going for the most low end torque and gas milage I could get when I built the 304 for my Daighter's Javelin. I see that you are using the Performer intake where I used the Holley Street Avenger. It would be really interesting to see what the difference would be swapping to the Performer on the Daughter's car. In fact, it would be interesting to see what it would do swapping to the infamous SP2P. It runs too well to do either right now but it would be fun to play around with it.

I wish i had a street avenger to try. Or a sp2p for sure. I maye even try the air gap ( which i have) , but it would be on a hotter 304 ...my instict tells me the performer is the true best of all worlds intake for a 304. Not sure why im hung up on 304’s right now. Wish i had a good block and some good early heads. Thinking bout asking landis what kinda 304 treasures he has, since he mentioned selling some. Seriously thinking about assembling a hotter 304... just for fun. I think your daughters car is fantastic, and is the thing that motivated me into trying a tame 304 for a driver. Kind of torn between trying the aisin warner or trying to rig up a amc904 case based a-500 mopar variation with overdrive. The 904 is familiar to me and i have plenty of them. not sure where thats headed but it will be a decision soon. I really gotta start putting this plan together now. April is here! This whole adventure is about tinkering with a low power , undesirable 304 just to see what it will do and i probably will go through a lot of silicone sealer and gaskets trying stuff out

The AW4 is a great trans. I think that it is one of the best but, if you know how to go through a cryco trans that may be the one for you. It would be awesome to go through the whole build etc with us. A local guy who used to be the a trans guy for AMC then Jeep was going to come up with a kit to make it easy but I never saw any results. He did put a few on the road around here and I know that Mr. Parkman did one as well. I have those stupidly high compression 290 pistons that would be cool to make like a E85 engine out of. I will have to go through the numbers to see what the compression would be with the late heads. OOooo, how about putting smaller valves in the Eddy heads and strapping them to a 304!

Yeah i dunno who first tried it,but its a old concept, I seen it in pictures of stockcars back in the 50’s. I started doing exhausts like that in the mid 80’s, copying nascar exhausts from model cars. I wondered about why it was done. My javelin had this shitty dual exhaust with glasspax, cobbed up from the stock single exhaust. It sucked and was always breaking hangers and dragging on the ground, so i tore one off one day and it ripped the studs , breaking them off in the logjam manifold. I got some cyclone headers and took the exhaust and manifolds off and put the headers on , roared down to a muffler shop and told them i wanted a full custom dual exhaust with turbo mufflers, 2 1/4 pipe with a crossover. Well i got some of what i wanted. It had 2 1/4 pipe to the mufflers, and 2 inch from the mufflers out the back. no crossover, and sounded like a big let let down. I was unhappy. So it went a while and broke one of the shitty hangers and started banging around . So i took it back and complained , they gave me a bunch of bullshit about how they couldnt fit 2 1/4 pipe over the rear end, and crossovers took too much time to do, and my headers were breaking the hangers. I said was pissed off and disgusted with it all. Its tough being an idealistic kid and getting mediocrity from jerks who dont care. So i bought a oxy acetylene rig. And started trying to weld. I figured it out and then started doing my own exhausts. Since i didnt have a bender, my exhausts came out pretty straight, and seldom had any tailpipe past themufflers. A lot like the one you see in the pic above. I started to do a true “x” since it was pretty easy, with the straight pipe i worked with. I was dumbfounded by how it sounded and made better midrange power. It actually smoothed out and mellowed the roar. My day saw what i did and said that makes sense, he was into electronics, and he likened it to hooking two resistors in parralel and lowering the resistance. He said its like putting the same amount of flow through two mufflers. Its like having two mufflers on EACH piple.

heres a pic of the exhaust i made for my hornet race car. It’s 3 inch pipe with borla xr-1 race mufflers. Really too much exhaust.

Yeah im not into that too much. The stuff you buy always has ten thousand unnessesary kinks and bends in it. I believe in straight shots as much as possible. I just like the added torture of doing it all from raw materials i guess. As you see i dont worry about how it looks. Primary goal is how it functions.

If that peckerhead were on this forum, he could see a real exhaust. Since he's asking on unskilled fagsville, he's screwed if the parts store doesn't have a direct replacement kit. They have 10,000 times the members, and he got no answer worth a shit.
