It was painful to pay for it that's for sure. I researched the hell out of them and came to the conclusion that I didn't want the gun burner type for a few reasons. First is being the price and second being that I don't have enough waste oil to justify one. Even the smallest one. This one is a glorified drip system so there is a lot less to go wrong with them than the gun type. I hope to "fire" it up tomorrow. Thanks to Fast401 for bringing 40 gallons of deep fryer oil to me. I think it will burn fine once I filter it and cut it with some fuel oil. On top of that I have probably 100 gallons of used motor oil. That is a lot of oil to me but you need like 600 gallons a year to justify the gun type. Oh. and I made the base stand for it out of a industrial display stand that was in Fastenall's scrap pile a couple years ago. I cut it in half and had the two red chunks laying around from I can't remember what but they worked perfect to lengthen it out. You are suppose to have on a stand incase you have to drain it.

Uncle Randy built an oil burner out of an old oil Furnace. He had to put a electric heater on the line to keep the oil thin enough to work.

I will take it all and whatever hydraulic oil you have laying around at work as well. New stuff is fine LOL! At $5.00 a gallon I figure it will be paid for after it burns 900 gallons of oil. Sounds like a lot but I have bought 600+ gallons of fuel oil so far this winter and the worst weather is yet to come. Not that I need to justify it or anything. The reality is I bought it because I wanted it. I finished setting it up this morning and it burning oil and putting out heat like it is suppose to.

Close bud of mine mad a big ass waste oil burner. 10k sf shop with 20' ceiling. He only fired the natural gas unit when it got below zero. I brought him 5 gallon jugs all year long since we had 5 vehicles in motion.

Figured it was time for a status report. I have the thermostat cranked to 90 just to keep it from shutting off so that it runs all day. I am trying to do anything from letting my fuel furnaces kick on. It basically burns 5 gallons of oil a day. I have been filtering the oil through a paint filter so it takes me a little while every morning to filter 5 gallons of oil. I mix it all together so there is regular oil, synthetic oil, and vegetable oil all in there burning at once. Makes for a scary ash pan to clean out every morning before start up. I have gone through 40 gallons of oil so far and I do need to open it up and clean the inside as well. So far so good but dealing with used oil and cleaning out the ash pan are messy jobs and you can't get around that. I have a couple of 30 gallon drums and from now on I will filter it into those as I get it so that will streamline the operation next year. Now to find more used oil.
