I guess using one of your fiberglass Spirit Hatch's for that would be a little over the top. It does look good though. That was suggested by my neighbor. Actually he thought the hood from the Matador wagon would be a good fit. LOL

Well, it doesn't look like much now that it is done but I got a furnace installed in the parts/tear down room. It started out as a $120.00 Craig's List up-flow fuel oil furnace. I cut 2' off of the back, opened up the bottom and built a plenum on top for the blower. Then, I turned it in to a down-flow furnace by building the duct work on the bottom with a duct going in to the big room behind it. I built the duct out of steel shelving with a closable door going to the big room. I still have to put a boot around the $100.00 chunk of tri-wall stainless flue going through the ceiling and rig up a oil tank. I also am moving my 7.5 HP air compressor to the opposite end of the shop.. I had to buy 75' of 8-3 wire at $2.12 a foot to do it. Just a little more progress on the master plan. Obviously, It would have been a lot easier if I could have just found a counter-flow furnace to begin with. I had been looking for one out of a house trailer but nothing came up so, I went this (cheap) rout.

Here is the next version of my waste oil burner. The wood stove conversion worked OK but I couldn't trust it. If I could sit there and watch it and adjust the oil flow and air flow every 10 min or so it was fine. It was either an inferno or the fire would go out. If the fire went out, the pot filled with oil and then I had to bail it out. It would get so hot that it warped the inside of the stove. The stove had seen better days anyway so now it is scrap metal. Enter the Siegler.. I bought this one of of CL a few years ago. It is exactly like the one that my Grandpa had. I cleaned out the carburetor, re-plumbed it with a filter, and put a new blower in it. The plan is to start it on Kerosene and once it is going switch it to my waste oil blend. LOL! The first batch was a 50/50 mix of used brake-in oil and #2 fuel oil. I know the key to burning this stuff is to get all of the particles out that I can. The carburetor jet is small it it won't take much to plug it. IMG_4422 by Rick Jones, on Flickr IMG_4453 by Rick Jones, on Flickr This thing really cranks out the heat on Kerosene. I would say it cranks out about half the heat with the waste oil blend which is 130 degrees at the bottom vent. The great part about it is I can just walk away from it and let it heat. Full bore on Kerosene. IMG_4458 by Rick Jones, on Flickr Full bore on the waste oil blend. IMG_4460 by Rick Jones, on Flickr

I am hiring my Nephew on Monday to help me with getting more done on the shop so today I worked at cleaning out the paint room and compressor room. It is kinda hard to see what is going on here but the original ceiling is 10' high and I had built a 8' ceiling below it to enclose the paint room and for storage above. Now I am going to tear the paint and compressor room out and put steel over the original ceiling. Plus, I went ahead and vaulted it like I did on the other two bays. IMG_5691 by Rick Jones, on Flickr This is where the compressor was along with as much crap as I could pack around it. 4 tires, my wire welder, 2 floor jacks etc etc. This is looking from the original part into the new part. IMG_5694 by Rick Jones, on Flickr I moved the compressor to the opposite end of the shop. I will build a room around it once I get the old part finished. IMG_5695 by Rick Jones, on Flickr

How do you not become a "collector" when you have that much space!?!?! My lack of a large shop keeps my hobby in check.

How do you not become a "collector" when you have that much space!?!?! My lack of a large shop keeps my hobby in check. I've reached that point now. I no longer have a barn with 4 floors. I only have enough space to park a single car with shop space left over...

After tomorrow, I should have the old part of the shop ready so that we can tear the paint room ceiling and wall down. Then we can put the steel on the ceiling above it. Meanwhile, all my shit is packed in the new part. IMG_5704 by Rick Jones, on Flickr

This is how it looks in the other direction. I am almost ready to tear the lower celing and the wall out. The trouble is I don't have the new side heated yet so I through up a tarp to wall it off for now. IMG_5708 by Rick Jones, on Flickr

It is hard to believe that we finished this wall 10 years ago this November. Hopefully, we we will be tearing it out by the week end. LOL! The ceiling on the other side of the wall is ready for steel finally. IMG_5714 by Rick Jones, on Flickr
