Agree. The whole car is pretty artistic IMO.

Looks pretty awesome! Where did you get the Mustang pipes? They are Flowmaster brand stainless mandrel bent 2.5", from Summit. I have tried the Walker brand ones before, and they didn't fit the AMX as well as these did.

I did an inspection/reseal on the Liberty 2.72 T10 and added a billet rear bearing support and shifter mount. The engagement teeth are looking pretty worn, so hopefully it will last the end of this season behind the stroker. The shift fork shafts/levers are interesting in that they are solid, with no groove for a sealing o-ring for more strength I assume, and the shafts are TIG welded to the levers inside that move the forks. The gears appear aftermarket, and have stampings from a likely long gone company. It would be cool to find someone to make another gearset for me. I'm told by Stickshifter that the wait at Liberty is stupid long for work. I'm probably better off just going to an aftermarket 4 speed when I'm done grenading all of my T10's. 20230708_145916 by Joe Pinsoneault, on Flickr 20230708_101446 by Joe Pinsoneault, on Flickr 20230708_101302 by Joe Pinsoneault, on Flickr

Joe, That engagement ring should be replaced or reground, that is FUGGLY. That will make it a bitch to shift quickly. How do the sliders look? I just checked and it appears I got rid of all my T10 stuff MANY years ago.

I just checked and it appears I got rid of all my T10 stuff MANY years ago. I told you they had wear lol. It's all together and back in the car now, since I can't wait a year for Liberty to fix them and still test this season. I'd like to see if they can faceplate these, if I don't blow it up this fall.

Welp, the Liberty trans started popping out of 3rd under load, so I sent the gears in to get the pro shift rings replaced. I put a 2.43 trans in for now, and swapped the 4.10 for a 4.56. The slick track at Cordova was really bad, so I went to Milan last night to test. I adjusted the clutch a bit but traction in 1st is still futile. Only managed 2.1-2.2 60' times, and 12.60 at 116.8 mph lol... It pulls well once it's rolling. Pretty frustrating, between the hard tires and a manual trans!

But it was fun! Maybe I’m ocd , but you put this in your javelin thread. I know the amx is a pure stock racer, and pure stock is sort of not exactly pure stock anyways. It would be nice if the rules allowed manual trans racers the flexibility of using a richmond t 10. They only come in gm versions but if the sanctioning body would have the forsight to allow it, it would do a lot for you guys in terms of supporting continuity of racing. If they allowed it across the board, it wouldnt be an unfair advantage. And its not like a jerico or liberty or something really good, you can still bust the shit out of it if you beat on it hard enough. But you can repair or replace it. Just a thought. If enough people liked the idea it would happen. Because one day the amc t10 is just going to be extinct or close enough to it and your done. I assume gm guys dont have a problem using one already. If they are sticklers for factory ratios the t10 has that . If thats not a consideration the t 10 can be had with a 2.88 or even a 3.42 low.

For me, the Richmond is harder to shift than the T10 but I know that there are ways to improve that. If someone wanted to they could get away with a ford top loader T10 easy enough. As Joe says, the next step up would to go to a 904/998 and use a Hornet body.

No problem Spud. I'll clarify a bit. The Liberty T10 was in the Javelin when it started acting up, and the recent Cordova and Milan testing was with the Javelin. It shows good potential at that mph. It could definitely use more first gear than the 2.43 that's in it now. I need the 2.72 gears back from Liberty soon, and maybe some fresh tires. A toploader trans swap may be a good idea, if I don't go with an auto first lol.

If i COULD do a toploader, i WOULD do a toploader. IMO its the best factory 4 speed there is. I would ask for forgivness in using one far before i would ask for permission to do it. But i’m just an enthusiastic spectator. Its your show, and its a good one too😁
