Yeah its already got some parking lot damage on the drivers quarter behind the wheel. Someone hit it while i was at the grocery store. It knocked some bondo off where it had been repaired long ago. Im still carefull with it and park it in remote areas away from fat bitches in kias . Its a little too conspicuous for me really. It does get attention, and im not really into people honking at me and stuff. Its really a pig with lipstick. I love it in spite of the paint. One thing that bugs me is that this chassis is NOT going to work on the track and i really dont want to change the springs and shocks and butch it so it hooks up. I guess i will struggle with that when it presents a problem. Which it wasnt with the 232. I have a feeling that will change now . Its a lab rat and we will see what it does.

I like spud's Jav. Since I can never have anything nice, it's my kind of car.

Too nice doesnt really work for me. I worry enough as it is. I would like to smooth it out and paint it bittersweet orange like it was, but i dunno if that will ever happen. I started to resto my other javelin, maybe ten year ago, and the elves never finished it. So the cosmetics are not a big priority. Since i’m over the hill and fading fast im going to focus on what means more and that is function. I was a punk rocker and reject the immaculate gaymc status quo .

Every time I do get a car that is nice, some asshole just can't resist the urge to swing a car door into it, or rear-end it, or back into it in a parking lot. POS's are all that the universe will allow me to have.

Same here Reb.
I guess I'm just a huge lazy ass. I'm done with putting 100s of hours into making something fairly nice and some fuck ruins it. Then they argue they did nothing.
My bud's Gremlin was rust free and prepped well. But he didn't want any of the dents fixed. and I swear he never got a door ding or chip and he dailyed that car.

I too am a firm believer in the concept of having what the universe brings me and not chasing unicorns. I got a free paint job out of trading this car off, then back. And its better than it was.

Any interest in selling the intake and header off the 232? I think that would really wake up the 199 in the '67 Rambler..

Well i was planning on using that 232 in a cj-5. So not too much interest in selling stuff off it. Thats an aluminum water heated manifold and weber dft carb, and a clifford 6 into 1 jeep cj header... I do have a new dual outlet hedman header i have no plans to use.

And so i have been wasting time digging through 904 torqueflite junk, assembling a 998-ish trans , and am stuck in the same old rut of procrastination about what to do, stock 2.45 low or go with a wide ratio gearset, should i go with a lot of clutches, what kind of frictions, it never ends. Cant make up my mind. To many decisions. To many variations in the hardware i have. Building a torqueflite from salvaged and cast off and collected crap is kind of confusing. I have 904, 998, 999 stuff that has fallen into my hoard over the years. The torqueflite is as eternal a trans as has ever been crafted, been around forever, and there is 70 years of components to pick from. Im trying to make something from nothing. Well something from junk and not spend much on... a plan that never seems to work.

Well i have assembled a pretty much stock ‘72 998 torquflite for the 304. What it has that is better than the 904 is this- a big double wrapped low reverse band and servo. The 998 case is beefed for this feature. It also has 4 pinion aluminum planetaries. ( this caused me a lot of confusion on thrust washer placement , as its different than a steel planetary configuration) the standard 2.45 low gearset( i had them, didnt have a 2.77 wide ratio set, which probably would have been better) 4 friction forward and high clutch drums ( which are better than a 904’s three friction drums) and i put a faibanks shift kit in the valvebody. Looks like it is tunable from “ heavy duty/ towing” to “ street and strip” by adjusting the main pressure valve spring tenstion. I could have opted for a” competition” mode, but that is full manual. I dont need that. I still got 999 pump, forward and direct clutch assemblies, which have 5 disc direct( 3rd gear) clutch packs and a 4 disc forward clutch, that i rebuilt, but decided to save and not use this go around. I want to get the wide ratio plantetaries and billet servos for it, but this mostly stock 998 is gonna be ok for now. Probably overkill for a stock 304. The 904 i have in it now would likely do. Up grades will come , depending on if money comes. Want a wide ratio gearset... with a gearvendors overdrive for the ultimate wide ratio six speed overdrive street strip 999 killer transmission, gott do some sweat investment before i can swing it. I’m only about 250$ in this trans now so thats fine.

I have wanted to try a gearvendors od for a long time. Not just for the overdrive, but for the ability to splitshift. The idea of using a wide ratio 3 speed automatic with a gearvendors allows you to go overdrive in every gear, making it a close ratio six speed automatic trans. Now using the low first gear, promotes using a higher rear axle ratio, and a deep first allows a tighter convertor...six close gears, 5th is direct, sixth is over, sounds kinda nice for a wimpy 304. I can use a six cylinder convertor. , a3.54 rear axle, with a 2.77 low is plenty low. And since i cant put anything taller than a 26.5 inch tire on the rear.... so you see i really dont need deep rear axle ratios.... well check out gear vendors.com for the scoop.

I never liked the fact that they are only 22% overdriven.
