Well i took the 304 out last night and removed the heads and found cylinders 1 and 4 were oily. The cylinders are in nice condition. I havent pushed the pistons out yet, not sure if the oil is from the rings or the valves. It did smoke some. It needs something at least. Maybe its drooling from the valves?

Just look at it as improved upper cylinder lubrication.

Thats a positive thought. I think i’ll look at the rings and bearings and see how happy they are. What about filling the piston bowls with jb weld to add compression? Waste of good glue?

That was the past, stacking head gaskets is the new cool.

I figured i would just spray a good coat of por15 on the heads and bolt em down. Why waste money on gaskets?

Great idea! You should ask Tater which is the best stuff they have to use. How thick it measures when it dries, and all that.

And so, armed with a fabulously affordable electronic scale from harbor freight, i throw caution to the wind! I attempt some piston and rod balancing! Yes i am truly hopeless. Why would I do this? I dunno. I blame it on you tube. And because curiousity killed the spud. So anyways i have done some fun stuff with my harbor freight scale, and it is an awesome tool. It showed me how much variation there is in my stock junk. Which is bad. Because it tricks me into thinking i can improve it, which causes me to lie to myself and think dumb shit, like I CAN improve it. And so spud jumps down the rabbithole. It takes a huge amount of time to attept this. Which i aint got. But it has taught me something. I am a fuckup for one. But all in all once i have hopelessly bumblfucked this into oblivion, i have a decent 360 ( possibly) that ( might) save my ass! Well i know entertainment is useless without pictures, so, this is going to be useless entertainment.

And i dunno if this is eternal javelin related or monster 304 related or what. But i made you look. How much more power can i trick my 304 out of by tearing it apart, looking at it, fucking it up with a grinder, and reassembling it with new rings and gaskets? And oh yeah i figured out my rings were good. My valveguides are not. Looks like i exceeded the life expectancy of knurled guides. Which is another fun topic! Can a elderly spud fix his own valveguides without a machine shop? Or can he ruin them attempting it? Lets find out! I have a local Goodson dealer that can provide the stuff to install valveguide repair sleeves. I am gonna invest and see it i can do stuff those evil bad people that run machine shops do. Man i hate those guys. And if i can fix my valveguides, uhh, what about the valves and seat wear? Uhh. Shut up. Thats gonna be fine. Right?

I have a valve machine, pilots, and stones. But I'm probably not gonna haul them to Dallas. I also have no idea how to use them.

Is it a valve grinding machine? I just weighed a dollar bill. 1 gram.

Yes. It's a Van Norman valve grinding machine, plus I have pilots, stones, and the drill looking thing for seats. On second thought, maybe I will haul it to Dallas...

Haven't heard back from him. I do need to meet up with Andy fairly soon to pick up a t-case and pair of heads, and try to work a deal on a 390 crank for a big car rear end.
