I finally laid my hands on a manual transmission for the Rebel today. Got a pretty good deal on a TKO five speed, with shifter, clutch, pressure plate, and input bearing retainers for both mechanical and hydraulic clutch release. Also in the deal was a Lakewood SFI bellhousing for Chevy. Woo-hoo!!

Nah, he didn't sell me the LS. I think I'm gonna go with a 1970 360 that I have already freshened up.

It was originally from a manual transmission car, so I have the original flywheel that is balanced to it. IIRC, it wasn't in bad shape. Some +.001" bearings, new rings, an Edelcock Performer cam kit, and R4B manifold. Should be a very pleasant street motor. We can always slap a radical 401 (or Chevy big block or LS) in it some other day.

If you want a performer cam for half edelbrokes price, get the melling mta-1 kit. Its only a 204 degree cam, Personally i think thats too small for a hi comp 360, i would go with a 214 @ .050 cam just to make it worth the trouble. Like a comp 268 h or the little summit cam. You wont be sorry! Way more fun especially with a stick trans. Its all about the fun.

The Edelcock cam is already in it and broken in, so I'll run it for a while. I got it along with a Performer intake and a set of headers for a song from a CL ad a few years ago. I might have a Comp 268 floating around here somewhere.

Well, I dug out the 360 today, and miracle of miracles, it isn't froze up. Woo-hoo! I'll take the flywheel down to the machine shop tomorrow and have it surfaced. I'm gonna pull the 74 heads off it and put the '70 heads back on with an R4B intake. Need to find a roller pilot bearing and figger out what to use for a throwout bearing.

Now, I need a pilot bearing with the AMC od, and a .590 id. Anyone know a part #?

FYI, For pilot bearings, I just find a proper sized ID sealed roller bearing and make a bushing to get the OD to fit the AMC crank. Super simple and cheap. Most of the input shafts on the race trans are 17mm so a 6203-2RS bearing, $6.90 from McMastr-Carr.

Perhaps you should make a pile of those bushings, put in a bag with the bearing and sell the kit for $50.00 each. I bet you sell at least 3 of them. Just thinking.

Remind me in about a month. I will get the CNC lathe making chips and will make a dozen of them. What are the other sizes of pilots on other transmissions?

Now if only I could find some new springs for the rear. Mine are completely sagged out. I really don't want to go with airbags.
